About Sean F. Byrnes
Mr. Byrnes graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1992. He received a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT in 1985, and served in the United States Coast Guard on active duty for seven years. His tour of duty included service as the Operations Officer on the Coast Guard Cutter Gentian and as the Budget and Planning Officer for the Chief Counsel of the U.S. Coast Guard. He also served as a Commander in the Coast Guard Reserve at Fort Wadsworth, NY and was recalled to active duty for service in New Orleans as the Deputy Chief of Staff at Area Field Office New Orleans, which coordinated recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Byrnes’ experience covers a wide range of specialties. He has extensive experience handling litigated matters in Federal and State court for individuals and small businesses. Comfortable pursuing or defending claims, he has represented clients in matters involving wrongful termination, harassment, wage and hour disputes, estate litigation, probate matters, guardianships, collection of debts, trade secret claims, and claims alleging interference with business. A significant portion of Mr. Byrnes’ practice is dedicated to Estate Planning and Administration. He regularly prepares Wills, Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Health Care Proxies and Advanced Health Care Directives for clients and their families and assists his clients through the probate process and the administration of an estate, including preparation of federal and state estate tax returns.
Mr. Byrnes’ robust practice also involves the sale and acquisition of small businesses, filing of construction liens, contract drafting, labor arbitrations, and residential and commercial real estate transactions. He appears regularly before local zoning and planning boards. He is a member of several Bar Association Committees, including Employment Law and Chancery Law. He lectures frequently and conducts seminars on how to avoid wrongful termination and harassment lawsuits. He also served as the Prosecutor for the Borough of Atlantic Highlands and was elected to the Township Committee in the Township of Middletown in 2007.
